Child and adolescent mental health

In 2010 the Health Committee at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences organized two State of the Science Conferences on child and adolescent mental health: A Conference 12—14 April on Trends in Child and Adolescent Mental and a conference 26—28 April on School, Learning and Mental Health.

The conferences were prepared by planning committees. At each conference a systematic literature review prepared by a group appointed by the Health Committee was presented. Expert lectures were given and there were opportunities for questions and comments by those attending the conferences. Based on these sources of information statements were made by independent, interdisciplinary panels consisting of individuals with substantial scientific expertise and who were without their own research within the areas relevant to the conference or other conflicts of interest.

The conferences were cornerstones in a project run by the Health Committee aiming at establishing a solid scientific basis for discussions and actions concerning child and adolescent mental health. As a part of the project The Swedish Council on Technology Assessment in Health Care conducted a systematic literature review about prevention programs on child and adolescent mental health.
